Well, my dad finally got to me. his passion for fire arms has made me bite the bullet (so to speak) and pick up a Chinese Army surplus TT-33. $200 CAD

got I think 750 rounds of 5.62x25 surplus for 130 along side it.

my first gun type deal. I’m reasonably happy. I know the ammo is corrosive, so i need to learn how to clean ASAP before I really use it. Dad has all oft he tools/chemicals, etc etc needed. Just need to learn.

So you have an unrestricted gun license .

Honestly it’s pretty simple. Some are a little tricky to get apart, especially cheaper ones, but still pretty easy for “people like us” who are mechanically inclined and not afraid of disassembly.

Congra ts!

Congrats!

Protip, I clean my nagant rifles with ammonia based windex. It dissolves the corrosive salts in the ammunition where standard firearm cleaners do not.

After one pass with windex on all internal metal surfaces, I proceed to clean as I would any other firearm.

restricted permit .

which lets me own restricted firearms.

unrestricted permit only lets you own long guns.

there is talk of most pistols going into prohib, and since the only way to get a prohib now is to be grandfathered in, I figured Id get one while I still can.

As a quick clean up at the range for corrosive ammunition I mix a solution of about three parts ammonia to one part water. Dampen a cleaning patch and swap the barrel with it. I repeat this a couple times and wipe the area around the firing pin with another.

Follow this with several dry patches to remove any residue. Then a thorough cleaning and oiling.

Be careful with the ammonia though because if you get it on the bluing it can damage the finish.

Some people just use windex, but I’ve had a couple gunsmiths tell me the ammonia concentration is too low, and it’s no better than flushing the barrel with water.

no, the gun was originally a russian design back in 1933.

and to be fair, if there is anything that the Chinese make okay, its old Russian military equipment.

These things are absolute flamethrowers in low light conditions. Surprisingly low recoil too. Lots of fun at the range, enjoy!

I had a yugo copy. The 7.62 is a h ot little round. Was more accurate than it should have been. Out shot a few of my target and race pistols worth 10 times as much. I’ve been on the hunt for another. Fun little firearm.

Nice. I have my PAL, but have never in my life even fired a gun. I got it for a volunteer position in a museum . It was a requirement to handle the antique guns.

I still get tempted by a 12 gauge over under or pump, but time/money restrictions.

yea, I was tempted to get the Chezk version, but it was another $ 150 on top...which, ehhhhh,.

the store had a SWEET side-by-side 12 inch shot gun there that I wanted. but I needed a pistol. (political reasons)

Like Decay said, an ammonia based cleaner like Windex is how you neutralize the corrosive residue left behind. Clean the bore and chamber with the solvent of your choice (there are many bore cleaners out there, but brake parts cleaner also does a fantastic job without leaving a residue), then a quick wipe down and bore patch with Windex, then a coat of oil.

Those tokarevs are pretty slick guns.  I’ve been looking for one myself lately.

yep, you don’t need any exotic chemicals.  the residue left behind is usually potassium chloride or sodium chloride (i.e. salt.)  Windex will be fine as long as rinsed thoroughly.

oh... gotcha. Eastern issues.

Maybe I should get an RPAL. The winds of change that are blowing right now politically does not seem to favor pistols.

this is EXACTLY why I got it.

get the RPAL, get a pistol, and then you are grandfathered in for the Prohib permit.

if you d ont, there will be no way to get it.

Corrosion x.  Buy for cleaning.   Anyone who is still taking two steps to clean and oil is a lemming.  Welcome.
